McCall sits at about 5,000 feet on the south shore of Payette Lake, roughly 100 miles (2 to 2.5 hours) north of Boise on Highway 55. A former mill town of around 3,700 people, it is now a four-season resort: lake days and trails in summer, Brundage and Tamarack skiing plus the Winter Carnival (since 1924) in winter, and hot springs any time.
